No, you can make an osteopathic appointment directly without a GP referral.
Yes please, you should aim to arrive 5-10 minutes earlier than your appointment time. Treatment time may be reduced if arriving late, in this case your osteopath will decide if treatment is still appropriate or rescheduling is best.
Your initial consultation will consist of an in depth case history, assessment and examination to formulate a diagnosis. Followed by appropriate treatment and exercise prescription if required.
You may also receive general lifestyle advice, activity modification or be referred to specialist/other medical health professionals.
On your initial visit, please bring along any X-rays, scans or test results that are relevant.
For DVA claims, it is important to bring all paperwork relating to your claim, otherwise we will not be able to treat you on the day of your appointment.
It's important that you feel comfortable throughout your appointment, so we advise a shirt and loose pants/shorts. You may be asked to remove certain clothing, usually down to your pants/shorts and bra so we can perform the best possible osteopathic examination and treatment.
We use towels to drape appropriately however if you do not feel comfortable removing your clothing, your practitioner can provide alternative treatment techniques.
Yes, you may have someone present throughout your appointment.
Your osteopath will aim to make you as comfortable as possible however there are techniques which may cause some short-term discomfort or pain.
You may experience mild soreness for a day or two after treatment. If this soreness persists or increases significantly, please contact your osteopath to discuss your concerns.
